November 3 this year saw Salem Symphonic Winds in Oregon USA under the baton of John Skelton perform “A Richer Dust” with text by Malene Sheppard Skaerved. On this occasion the narrator was Suzanne Nance.

Conductor Dr John Skelton said of the performance “Rehearsing and performing A Richer Dust was one of the most profound experiences of my life! We had a very deep experience with the work. Thank you. It certainly took some time for the depth of the work to be understood by our ensemble. Many have told me how much they appreciate the opportunity to perform the work. Our soloist said on her Facebook page that it was the most difficult work she had ever performed. She also thanked me profusely for the opportunity to perform the work.”

Malene Sheppard Skaerved at the French premiere of (her)`A Richer Dust’. Malene’s haunting words gave us all something to think about in Strasbourg!

Malene Sheppard Skaerved and myself attended an extraordinary performance of `A Richer Dust’ (9th June) given by the Wind Orchestra at the Conservatoire et de l’Académie Superieure de Musique de Strasbourg under the inspired direction of conductor Miguel Etchegoncelay.

The staged concert performance was a cross-collaboration with the music school and the visual arts school and the conservatoire. For me it was a joy to see the creativity and skill that had gone in to this performance. Thank you again to the outstanding students and staff (Francois Duconseille and Miguel Etchegoncelay) and the rest of the team at the Conservatoire et de l’Académie Superieure de Musique de Strasbourg!
